About General Practice Cairns
General Practice Cairns (GPC) is one of 119 Divisions of General Practice in Australia, which were first established in 1992, through what is now known as the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, to provide support to General Practice at the local level.
GPC services the area from Palm Cove to Babinda, including Yarrabah, approximately the area of the Cairns City Council. (General Practices in the rest of Far North Queensland are supported by the Far North Queensland Rural Division of General Practice.)
Our Mission is to:
- Foster and support General Practitioners and Practice Staff in their primary care health role.
- Provide a strong relevant voice for General Practice.
- Facilitate valuable liaison with government, key organisations, health providers and the community.
GPC improves the health of the people of Cairns by working in partnerships to:
- Develop additional health services in the community.
- Support the coordination of local health care.
- Promote important health messages to the public and decision makers.
